Visitor Permit

Still planning

Yup, it's getting close. We got our Visitor Permit from the PCTA (Pacific Crest Trail Association) which consolidates all the required permits for all the national parks, national forests, state parks and whatever else is needed into one Thru Hiker Permit. See photo. And we have our California campfire permit, also see photo. Moira has done an incredible job of planning the trip using one fellow's online trip planner, sort of like a spreadsheet with formulas. You just put in your daily mileage estimate and other information and up it comes and then you make adjustments. Then we went out and bought lots of food, light weight of course. Fresh veggies were dehydrated. (pepper, peas, corn) and we bought sun-dried tomatoes, dried onions and dried mushrooms. She also cooked up some lean beef hamburger and chicken and turkey burger and then dehydrated that. Comes out in crumbles that rehydrates well when you add water a couple of hours before cooking. Looks like dog food so we call it kibble. Not taking a lot of this as meat crossing the border is problematic. So we bought a whack of freeze dried meat and had it sent directly to our friend's, Gordy and Tammy, who live in Newport Coast, between LA and San Diego. They will be our logistic supporters. We'll go there first in order to organize and create our mailing packages which they have kindly volunteered to mail when we ask them to. Also, they have agreed to drive us to Campo, at the Mexican border.
