Dick, Eddi & Marion -Trailhead - Georgia AT

Editor's Note 10/9/08: She made it!

Eddi/Vegematic entered Canada at Manning Park, BC on October 1. She has also updated her text and photos through 10/1.

Getting ready for the PCT is getting exciting. Myself (Eddi), Dick and Marion are friends who met as volunteer trail maintainers for the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club (GATC). We're posed here by the northernmost trailhead in Georgia - Dick's Creek Gap.

So far the planning has been pretty easy -- we have our plane tickets for San Diego on April 22 and have a plan on how to get to Campo. We'll be spending a fair amount of time in the kitchen since we have calculated we'll need to ship 37 days of food for our resupply plan. Some friends have volunteered to ship care packages, hopefully including chocolate.

Both Dick and Marion have thru hiked the AT so I'm at a disadvantage in preparing for this journey -- at least I'm an experienced backpacker so I don't have to start from scratch. The hardest part is clothing -- it's like the three Bears story -- not too much, not too little, but just right! I know about 'bounce boxes' that means you can ship clothes around for when it is "supposed" to be hot or cold but my experience on the trail is that it goes from 'freeze to fry' sometimes on an hourly basis. Oh well, gives me something to fuss over.
