Yosemite Day Hike

Howdy,

First entry.

As I embark on this epic adventure, many folk ask me why? Answering this question is kinda difficult, but it's also really easy. It's easy to answer by declaring that its something I want to do. It's rather difficult to explain though how and why the trail has a pull on me. How does one explain something they don't particularly understand themselves. Sure I could tick reasons such as loving to be outdoors, the smell of crisp alpine air, the desire to test myself physically and mentally but these are all only components of something larger. The timing is right, I just graduated from Fresno State in December. I have a gap this year before I plan on starting Medical School in 2011. I have pieced together my gear over the past couple of years, and have managed to save some money (a real hard thing to do as a broke college student). The pieces are all layed out for me to do it, so I will give it my best shot.

Last year I really enjoyed following some PCT journals, especially IceAxe. Hopefully this journal can offer some other intrepid hiker some insight. At the very least, I expect this journal to offer a snapshot of my journey for better or worse.

To the class of 2010 lets kick some ass... I mean some serious trail.

Out For A Long Walk

"Every dreamer knows that it is entirely possible to be homesick for a place you've never been to, perhaps more homesick than for familiar ground.
