Oh how plans have a way of changing on the trail this year! Last night I called Fish Lake Resort to inquire about camping there considering the holiday weekend. The lady said that I was welcome to camp for free in the hiker site, but did I know that I couldn't get to Crater Lake from there? Nope. She said that the trail was still snow covered up on Mt. McLaughlin and hikers were having to turn around at Fish Lake. Bummer. I made a few other calls to the rangers to confirm the information this morning and sure enough, they strongly recommend that I change my plans.

So, now I'm waiting for my aunt to pick me up and take me back to Ashland. Meg will be here tonight and then we'll head back to Seattle tomorrow. I don't know for sure if I'm throwing in the towel, but I get the sneaking suspicion that my options have run out. Unless I find a way to restart the trail in August, this might be the end of the line for me.

Normally I love snow...right now...not so much.
