Appalachian Trail Map

the end

well, today was one of the best days of my life. easily the best moment. we camped at katahdin stream campground last night and timed our summit arrival today perfectly. we saw the weather wqs supposed to start clearing by mid day, so we started hiking around 9am. we expected it to take three hours to get up, but it took jusst over two. the weather was gnarly on the way up. we were in the clouds and the wind was very strong. as we passed literally around 100 day hikers on the way up, the weather began changing as patches of blue sky began poking through. we saw the summit and ran the last 300yards to the top screaming at the top of our lungs. it wa amazing. we all fell on the sign, whooping hollering with so much energy and hugs all around. it was quite the moment and all the day hikerd applauded our boisterous arrival. we busted out the champagne and sprayed everything down, our packs, each other, the sign, and a few innocent bystanders. we took our pictures and sat there enjoying the moment and clearing skies for three hours. jack's dad joined us on the summit and we went back down with very sore knees. we played frisbee and feasted on pie and watermelon at the bottom and drove to millinocket maine for a post trail burger. we said our goodbyes to taillights and got a hotel room. its wierd being in a cheap hotel without taillights. miss that little west virginian already. this trip has been an amazing experience. i'vve made three lifelong friends and had the best five months of my life. it is crazy to think back to the times in the smokies or georgia; it does not feel that long ago. im excited to get home and see friends and family and take a trip westwards to visit tom and jack in colorado to do some climbing, mountaineering and canyoneering. this might also be the only time in my life i could trot a marathon, so i might do that too. i will be in new hampshire for the next two weeks with my brother before making it back to nc. also, i think i might have another long trail in me. maybe the PCT years down the road. thank you all for reading and all your support. ember
